East and West meet in Zhou Chun Ya's work. Chun Ya spent three years studying in Kassel (Germany) where he was influenced by Northern European art. But his thematic paintings - with his dog Heigen, a stone, the human body, or flowers as their subject - are related to traditional Chinese painting both in style and content. The green dog in this painting ia a reminiscent of a Chinese dragon, symbol of the Chinese emperors and of happiness.
