In the seventies, contrary to the propaganda of the times, He Duoling's work was admired for its expression of humanity, sadness, melancholy, and sincerity. His style and temperament carry the influences of the Anmerican painter Andrew Wyeth. Duoling paints classic themes, such as portraits, still lifes, or the harshness of country life. This continues to make him an important example to the current generation of young Chengdu artists
